A single flickering lamp can be a minor compatibility issue. Flickering across multiple rooms—or lights that become unusually bright and dim—can point to a more serious wiring or service problem.
Localized flickering
One fixture may flicker because of a loose lamp, failing driver, incompatible dimmer, damaged socket, or loose branch-circuit connection.
Property-wide voltage changes
When several circuits change brightness together, an electrician may need to evaluate service conductors, panel connections, multiwire circuits, and the grounded conductor.
What to do
Turn off affected equipment if you notice overheating, burning odor, buzzing, sparks, or extreme brightness changes. Document affected rooms and whether the condition occurs when a large appliance starts.
